Wild Goose Chase
Friday, July 25th, 2008I don’t get excited about too many books. I got excited about Velvet Elvis by Robb Bell and No Compromise by Melody Green (about her husband Keith Green). But I found out a couple days ago that Mark Batterson, a pastor in DC, has written a second book called Wild Goose Chase. I’m excited. I want to read it right now in fact.
The subtitle is “Reclaiming the adventure of pursuing God”. Amen. That’s what I need right about now. Adventurous faith. I’m really good at this easy Christianity thing. I want more.

The introduction to the book states…
Celtic Christians had a name for the Holy Spirit–An Geadh-Glas, or ‘the Wild Goose.’ The name hints at mystery. Much like a wild goose, the Spirit of God cannot be tracked or tamed. An element of danger, an air of unpredictability surround Him. And while the name may sound a little sacrilegious, I cannot think of a better description of what it’s like to follow the Spirit through life. I think the Celtic Christians were on to something…
Most of us will have no idea where we are going most of the time. And I know that is unsettling. But circumstantial uncertainty also goes by another name: Adventure.

I am stoked over it. I can’t wait to get one in my hands and loan it out to all my friends. A pre-order should be happening soon. Anybody else buying it?

Hmm .. I just read “the Shack’ … it was amazing. I’m “trying” to read a book on worship that is bogging me down with big words and heavy, seminary-style writing. I dunno if I’m gonna make it. I’ve still got to finish a couple of others. I’m not a very good reader, that’s for sure.

Ordered 2. And will read and reread and buy the audio. Chasing a Lion is one of my top favorites too! Mark Batterson will bring it again–without doubt.
