Seven Tips on Photography :: The Introduction

Monday, February 11th, 2008

PhotographerA friend on Facebook asked me today for some photography tips. Honored, I wrote her a quick reply (below). They’re in no way a complete list of tips but they’re a start.

  1. Know your camera and how to use it. All those buttons mean something important.
  2. Use the rule of thirds.
  3. Fill the frame.
  4. Shoot from abnormal angles like laying on the ground or from up high.
  5. Study other’s work and try to replicate it (not for plagiarizing but for practice).
  6. Take an absurd number of photos of the same thing from many angles and positions then find the best and ask why.
  7. Get it right IN the camera. Rely on Photoshop ONLY when necessary.

Check back over the next few weeks as I flesh each one of these out.
